The Long Hill Township Historical Society was established in 1965 as the Passaic Township Historical Society. 

The Historical Society has its own webpage at www.longhillhistory.org. Please visit the site for information about meeting dates, program lectures and field trips. Some historical documents and artifacts from the collections are posted on the site.

Meetings are held at 7:30 pm on the second Thursday of each month (except during the summer) at the First aid Squad building, 949 Valley Road in Gillette. Meetings are free and open to the public. Refreshments are served.

The Historical Society's collection is housed at the Long Hill Public Library. Artifacts may be viewed by appointment or on Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The collection includes the following:

  • 50 historical maps of Long Hill Township
  • Two albums of photographs of houses, residents, and local topics
  • Books and tapes of remembrances of life in Long Hill Township during the early to mid 1900's
  • Family information and histories.
