** Bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, carpeting (rolled and tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet in length), padding, can be placed curbside with regular garbage on the scheduled Garbage & Bulk Pickup dates only which are also posted on the township calendar.
Garbage & Bulk Pickup dates have now changed to one pickup per month at the first half of the week at the end of the month only. Call Public Works at 908-647-0070 if you have any questions.
The Garbage and Recycling listings on the Township Calendar show any "No-Pickup" and "Double Pickup" dates.

The Garbage and Recycling Calendar shows specific No Pickup and Double Pickup dates.
- Garbage collection begins at 6:00 a.m. each day (6:30 on Saturday). Routes vary, and times of arrival will vary. Garbage trucks give a few minutes warning of their approach.
- Residents are cautioned that, in our semi-rural environment, nocturnal wild animals WILL find your garbage if you put it out the night before.
- Blue Diamond is the garbage pickup contractor, telephone number 973-598-9800. You can also discuss any problems with the Long Hill Public Works Department at 908-647-0070.
Fact: In addition to the costs of the contractor to pick up your garbage, we have to pay an additional $78.90 per ton at the Transfer Station to have the garbage hauled to a landfill in Pennsylvania. That charge includes the operation of the transfer station, contractors to haul the garbage to Pennsylvania, the landfill charges, and the taxes that Pennsylvania imposes on imported garbage.
Fact: Long Hill sends about 3500-4000 tons of garbage to the transfer station each year. That works out to about 50 pounds per residence per week.
