HOUSE NUMBERING APPEAL

April 12, 2002

Dear Resident

The Long Hill Township Office of Emergency Management and the Emergency Response Personnel of your town, including the Long Hill Township Police Department, Millington Fire Department, Stirling Fire Department and the Long Hill First Aid Squad need your help.  Hundreds of hours each year are spent to be the best trained emergency response personnel.  Their vehicles and equipment are maintained and ready to respond to your call for HELP.  Unfortunately they have one major problem -- they cannot FIND you because your house is not properly marked with an easy to read HOUSE NUMBER.

As you know, seconds count and can make the difference between life and death.  The emergency response personnel often lose precious seconds because they cannot find your house.  The Long Hill Township Police Explorers, as part of a Community Service Project, has agreed to assist the Long Hill Township Emergency Response Departments looking for homes that are not clearly marked with a house number.

Your home has been identified as one of these homes that could cause emergency responding personnel extra precious seconds in locating your home.  To help them, and more importantly to help yourself or a loved one, please post your HOUSE NUMBER in a location that can easily be seen, using numbers that are large enough to be seen easily day or evening.

Township Ordinance #29-2-6 - requires house numbers, at least three inches in height, be placed above or to the side of the main entrance door way.  If the house is located more than 50 feet from the road, the house numbers should be placed at the main walk, driveway or common entrance to the building.

Please help us so we can help you when you call for help.

Sincerely,

Kenneth J. Fullagar
Director Emergency Management
